Registration & authority
- USDOT number (FMCSA) with correct intrastate/interstate classification
- Florida LLC via Sunbiz + EIN + local business tax receipt (county and city)
- FLHSMV commercial vehicle registration and IRP/IFTA if you cross state lines
Contract readiness
- Register as a vendor in MyFloridaMarketPlace and your county's procurement portal
- Consider DBE certification through FDOT if you qualify
- Prepare a W-9, COI, safety program, and equipment list for bid packets
- Watch FDOT district and county bid calendars for hauling and fill contracts
Insurance & safety
- Auto liability at the limit your prime contractor requires (often $1M)
- General liability + workers' comp (or exemption) as required by the GC
- CDL, medical card, Clearinghouse registration, and random testing
- Tarp every load — Florida enforces uncovered-load violations
