Registration & authority
- USDOT number (FMCSA)
- PA business entity with the Department of State + EIN
- PennDOT registration at your gross weight; IRP/IFTA if you cross state lines
- PUC authority if you haul property for hire intrastate (check whether your work is exempt)
Weight & permits
- 80,000 lbs gross standard; PA offers specific allowances for certain dump configurations — verify with PennDOT
- Watch posted-bridge and seasonal (frost law) restrictions on local roads
- Local road bonding/excess maintenance agreements may be required for heavy hauling
Insurance & driver
- Auto liability filed as required by PUC + GC contract limits
- Class A or B CDL as required by your truck + current DOT medical card
- FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse registration and random testing consortium
- Annual DOT inspection on every truck + daily pre-trip records
